Spanish Lesson Notes: Day 8

Today we learned …

Future tense

Ir a + infinitivo = going to …

  • yo voy = I’m going
  • tu vas = you are going
  • el va = he is going
  • nosotros vamos = we are going
  • ustedes van = you (all) are going

Examples

  • Yo voy a viajar = I’m going to travel
  • Tú vas a comprar = You are going to buy
  • voy a ser = I’m going to be
  • el va a vísitar = he is going to visit
  • ella va a prácticar = she is going to practise
  • usted va a comer = you (all) are going to eat
  • nosotros vamos a beber  = we are going to drink
  • ellos van a escribir = they are going to write (masc.)
  • ellas van a vivir = they are going to live (fem.)
  • ustedes van a hablar = they are (all) going to speak
  • a dónde van ahora? = where are they going now?
  • a dónde van esta noche = where are they going tonight?
  • a dónde van a comer el próximo domingo? = where are they going to eat next sunday?
  • voy a casarme = I’m going to get married
  • vas a tener = you’re going to have
  • yo estoy yendo = I am currently going

Other ways of expressing the future tense include:

  • Pienso + infinitive = I intend to …
  • Quiero + infinitive = I would like to …

The word ‘and’

Use ‘e’ instead of ‘y’ for ‘and’ when the following word begins with ‘i’
